Members of a pseudonymous Nicaraguan family here talk about their lives, beginning with accounts of the late Somoza years through the triumph of the 1979 revolution, and ending in 1987. The family consists of elderly Dona Maria Lopez, essentially apolitical but sympathetic to her children's political passions; her daughter Leticia, a Sandinista collaborator and the most articulate, least ingenuous subject; and Leticia's half-sister and half-brother, Marta and Omar, active in the revolution, now employed in Sandinista agencies. Amid occasional squabbling and political grandstanding, a compelling human panorama emerges, and one of tragic dimensions, as family members come to realize the fragility of the revolutionary culture that matters so deeply to them. Hart, a language instructor at Oregon State University who spent 1983 to 1987 meeting with her subjects, makes no claim to objectivity, yet her portrayal conveys great force and her subjects' eloquence.

An Interesting and Enlightening Experience

Ms. Hart's book is an interesting and enlightening account of the daily struggles of a Nicaraguan family. Their personal struggles and the horrible political situation strengthened their devotion to each other and their country.
A strong faith in God and family committment helped each member survive and thrive inspite of adversity.
The reader gains understanding of the political and social conditions in Nicaragua. Each family member shares their feelings and struggle.

Helpful to literally anybody

This is a great book for learning the entire process of persuasion when combined with two books I recommend in addition. Elements are broken down, explained with many analogies added to make it real, and strategies are modeled. You can start with a goal and end up securing commitments of others to achieve a goal that enriches everybody involved. In the information world, we have the opportunity to be good influencers by taking personal responsibility.

I think The Art of Woo can be combined with Mastering the Complex Sale to form a foundation for anybody in sales or role that requires persuasion Mastering the Complex Sale: How to Compete and Win When the Stakes are High!. In a sense, everything we do is supportive of our relationships, as these two books outline. Our jobs depend on making our work relationships productive, and that requires achievement toward common goals. The interesting thing to me is that you cannot buy relationships, even though advertising tells us so. Relationships require work and persistence.

Another important point I never see in books of this genre is that you and I don't actually need to convert anybody to our own ideas, attitudes and feelings. We only need to find common ground, a common goal, commit to it and then be happy in our work. That's why I'd recommend a third book, called How I Found Freedom in an Unfree World (free on the Internet).

will remain in that condition for very long-time. I feel like he has been finding something from
his study (perhaps from his life) and now developing it and someday will become a popular
new branch of discipline. He is a professor from very well-known university.

If sometimes you just don't "click" with people when it matters, read this!

Need a way to connect, to get others on your team? I'm still reading this book, but can already say that it will be very valuable to me, as I feel frustrated by feeling that a project or sale was lost because somehow we just didn't "click" when it really mattered. Understanding my communication style and the factors that people base their decisions on, and knowing how to utilize that understanding, will be priceless, both in business and personally. This Kindle download was a little higher in price than I like, but the book is not fluff. It appears to have real tools for improvement that will make a difference.

Dr. Kevin Snyder has helped thousands of leaders take action and lead more fulfilling and passionate lives. As both a professional speaker, inventor, author, and student affairs professional, Kevin knows what styles of leadership books and programs captivate, inspire, and entertain audiences. Kevin has held professional positions as an educational consultant, trainer, and higher education administrator in areas of Student Activities, Greek Life, Orientation Services, Counseling, Academic Advising and Residence Life. Most recently, he served as Dean of Students for High Point University in High Point, North Carolina. He is also an adjunct faculty member at the Center for Creative Leadership based in Greensboro, North Carolina. Kevin is a professional facilitator and speaker with years of experience presenting keynotes, retreats, and values-based leadership programs. Kevin’s keynotes and workshops have given him the privilege of speaking in front of audiences across the country. Over 300 audiences in all 50 states have experienced his energetic, inspirational, and motivating programs. He received his undergraduate degree in marine biology from the University of North Carolina at Wilmington where he was awarded both Homecoming King and Greek Man of the Year! His master’s degree is from the University of South Carolina where he was also awarded Graduate Student of the Year. His doctorate in Educational Leadership was earned from the University of Central Florida. A Very Inspiring and Passionate Book

This book was inspiring and really teaches you to take control of your destiny with passion and to never get in your own way ! I couldn't put the book down. My favorite quote in this book was " You can never lose unless you give up ". The personal challenges and accomplishments made it very easy to apply Kevin's principles to leading, influencing and making a difference in life. I loved the vision board idea and I'm excited to start a larger board to watch my dreams come true :). I would recommend this to anyone who wants to grow, inspire, lead, help others or just attract success and happiness !

This book was very inspiring. The personal stories not only bring you closer to the author, but will also help you realize just how much your life choices and frame of mind create the path you are on. I highly recommend this book to anyone who wants to be motivated, inspired, and who wants to learn how to be successful within their life! Think Differently To Achieve Amazing Success!

Attitude and Positive Thinking

What an inspirational book! I loved hearing Dr. Snyder speak at the MAACCE conference in Tan-Tar-A to a group of adult and after school educators. We as a group LOVE our students and are passionate about their success. I can definitely pull from this book to share with my students and inspire them not to give up.
In this book, Dr. Snyder shares some personal challenges from his youth. He talks about how he used these painful experiences to learn and grow. It is a huge testimony to the power of positive thinking and a courageous attitude. We can choose to curl up and alienate ourselves, or we can choose to pull ourselves up out of whatever trials we are facing. It reminds me of a quote that I have in my journal: "When you are going through something hard and wonder where God is, remember the teacher is always quiet during a test." These challenges and hardships are often opportunities to be a better version of ourselves. The hard part is recognizing that.
Dr. Kevin Snyder's book was energizing and inspiring. Honestly, I had a hard time putting it down. It was a quick and enjoyable read, and it was very relatable. I highly recommend!
