About the Author

Mark L. Berenson is Professor of Management and Information Systems at Montclair State University and also Professor Emeritus of Statistics and Computer Information Systems at Bernard M. Baruch College (City University of New York). He received his B.A. in economic statistics and an M.B.A. in business statistics from City College of New York and a Ph.D. in business from the City University of New York. Berenson currently teaches graduate and undergraduate courses in statistics and in operations management in the School of Business and an undergraduate course in international justice and human rights that he co-developed in the College of Humanities and Social Sciences. Over the years, he has received serval awards for teaching and for innovative contributions to statistics education. In 2005, he was the first recipient of The Catherine A. Becker Service for Educational Excellence Award at Montclair State University. Berenson’s research has been published in numerous journals, including Decision Sciences Journal of Innovative Education, Review of Business Research, The American Statistician, Communications in Statistics, and Journal of Management Sciences and Applied Cybernetics, and Journal of Health Administration Education. He is co-author of 11 statistics texts, including Statistics for Managers Using Microsoft Excel and Business Statistics: A First Course.

David M. Levine is Professor Emeritus of Statistics and Computer Information Systems at Baruch College (City University of New York). He received B.B.A. and M.B.A. degrees in statistics from City College of New York and a Ph.D. from New York University in industrial engineering and operations research. He is nationally recognized as a leading innovator in statistics education and is the co-author of 14 books, including such best- selling statistics textbooks as Statistics for Managers Using Microsoft Excel, Basic Business Statistics: Concepts and Applications, Business Statistics: A First Course, and Applied Statistics for Engineers and Scientists Using Microsoft Excel and Minitab.

He also is the co-author of Even You Can Learn Statistics: A Guide for Everyone Who Has Ever Been Afraid of Statistics, currently in its second edition, Six Sigma for Green Belts and Champions and Design for Six Sigma for Green Belts and Champions, and the author of Statistics for Six Sigma Green Belts, all published by FT Press, a Pearson imprint, and Quality Management, third edition, McGraw-Hill/Irwin. He is also the author of Video Review of Statistics and Video Review of Probability, both published by Video Aided Instruction, and the statistics module of the MBA primer published by Cengage Learning. He has published articles in various journals, including Psychometrika, The American Statistician, Communications in Statistics, Decision Sciences Journal of Innovative Education, Multivariate Behavioral Research, Journal of Systems Management, Quality Progress, and The American Anthropologist, and he has given numerous talks at the Decision Sciences Institute (DSI), American Statistical Association (ASA), and Making Statistics More Effective in Schools and Business (MSMESB) conferences. Levine has also received several awards for outstanding teaching and curriculum development from Baruch College.

Kathryn A, Szabat is Associate Professor and Chair of Business Systems and Analytics at LaSalle University. She teaches undergraduate and graduate courses in business statistics and operations management. Szabat’s research has been published in International Journal of Applied Decision Sciences Accounting Education, Journal of Applied Business and Economics, Journal of Healthcare Management, and Journal of Management Studies. Scholarly chapters have appeared in Managing Adaptability, Intervention, and People in Enterprise Information Systems; Managing, Trade, Economies and International Business; Encyclopedia of Statistics in Behavioral Science; and Statistical Methods in Longitudinal Research. Szabat has provided statistical advice to numerous business, non-business, and academic communities. Her more recent involvement has been in the areas of education, medicine, and nonprofit capacity building. Szabat received a B.S. in mathematics from State University of New York at Albany and M.S. and Ph.D. degrees in statistics, with a cognate in operations research, from the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania.

I have to give Amazon a SUCKS! See attached

Description plainly says Plus NEW MyStat lab. Did not. Amazon states they do not guarantee access codes. This I fully understand. But the description says Plus New My StatLab. The lady I talked to was going to issue the code but her supervisor would not allow it. I usually have a reasonable experience with Amazon. For this one, I have to give Amazon a SUCKS! See attached .jpg.

It's great if you need just the textbook

It's great if you need just the textbook, but if you need the MyStatLab website code, don't even bother. The website says that a code comes with it but that is not true. The code in the front of the book was used and didn't work so I had to return it. If you don't need the website though definitely get it. Otherwise you're best off just getting the ebook on the Pearson website.

unconditional love that never lets go

Brutally honest and hard to put down...After reading this book, you'll believe in miracles! It will make you thankful for grace and a God who pursues all of us with a deep, unconditional love that never lets go. Not only does the book tell an inspiring story, it tells it with literary excellence! Malcolm is a brilliant author.

The Second Lap - the run you were made for ...

Malcolm McLouglin is an awesome writer - one of the reasons behind my immediately securing a copy of "The Second Lap" upon its release. Secondly, through an odd series of events that connected me to Malcolm as a writer, I became interested in his story and learning more about his journey toward grace. While Malcolm's "first lap" through life differs dramatically from mine, it's the ongoing and concluding work of the "second lap" where our paths coincide ... run parallel. This is the great mystery and miracle of grace - how God finds us on our first laps and, through the power and transformational work of the cross - orchestrates a collaborative/connected second lap of extraordinary worth and value. God has used Malcolm's passion (past and present - addictions that have buried him in the abyss and that have elevated him to heights above) to further the kingdom narrative. His second lap is a story of full redemption - an odyssey of faith where Malcolm's past begins (and continues) to work for him instead of against him. I believe that the greatest miracle God still works in society today is that of a changed heart and life. Malcolm is living proof. I am grateful for his second lap and for how his grace-filled run through this world is lending strength, courage, and hope to my own.

Bodybuilder and athlete legend Pax Beale had earlier used Creatine Pyruvate to transform from one suffering of mortal heart failure after a failed heart bypass operation, to that of world bodybuilding champion. Pax looked amazing in his 60’s and 70’s, competing until the age of 77. Pax had previously lived with an oxygen tank for 4 years into his early 60’s. Pax’s amazing heart journey is also presented in detail in this book, so two stories in one book. Pax is now 84 years young, still weight training and taking Creatine Pyruvate.

The history of Pyruvate is shown, going back to Louis Pasteur, and its use by athletes, and top heart and cancer researchers. This book shows what doctors and top US medical institutions did in these studies, their sources of funding, and also why we do not know about any of this.

As for this book’s Chapter on Lance Armstrong, really nothing has changed since his recent “admission”. Lance did in fact fund two amazing studies in 2011 showing Pyruvate can stop cancer. He was in a hurry to find a cure. He almost died of brain, lung and testicle cancer, which can return. Lance had an unusual interest in a subject most never heard of: how pyruvate in certain forms can stop cancer. Did he know something we should know?

Eye Opening and Informative

The author has chosen to tackle not only an important subject, but an industry that is ripe with Docs who consider themselves just slightly higher than The Almighty. I recommend this book to anyone looking for an alternative to conventional medicine offered as the standard of care. The standard of care is not for everyone, especially those looking to treat the underlying problem and not the symptom. Nicely done Steve Harte!

Not what I expected.

While I am not a medical expert, I did not like the unconventional approach and cure that is advocated in this book. Undocumented results made me reject all of it. Perhaps I should have been warned that this was an unusual remedy,.being more of a common sense person. I might not have bought the book if I had known something more about the author.

I can imagine that if I knew what any of he symbols meant that reading this would be just the same as having someone there with you writing on the matter exudes character. Obviously an excellent book.

About the Author

Anne-Marie Mawhiney, professor of social work at Laurentian University in Sudbury with a doctorate from York University, was director of the Institute of Northern Ontario Research and Development from 1991-1994 and from 1995-1997. She is a research principal with the Elliot Lake Tracking and Adjustment Study and editor of Rebirth: Political, Economic, and Social Development in First Nations.

Jane Pitblado has been projects coordinator at the Institute of Northern Ontario Research and Development since 1991. She has managed the compilation of several INORD publications, including Rebirth: Political, Economic, and Social Development in First Nations; Hard Lessons: The Mine Mill Union in the Canadian Labour Movement; and Changing Lives: Women in Northern Ontario, she recently graduated with an M.A. in Humanities at Laurentian University.

Straightforward - the finest attribute of this book

I recently added "Options for the Stock Investor" to my financial trading and investment library, hoping it would keep its promise describing it as logically written in a systematic and straightforward manner. I'm pleased to say it HASN'T DISAPPOINTED.

Unfortunately, this book hasn't received the attention it deserves among the many books devoted primarily to intermediate options traders/investors. I've always felt that options were explained in a much too "matter of fact" manner, where the most practical information is inadvertently ignored, obscured or non-existent.

Anyone trying to learn stock options is arguably bombarded by fearful information and disorganized, incomplete explanations. This short but concentrated book cuts through the many counterintuitive aspects and implicit contradictions involving stock options.

Beginners need only go to the Investopedia and similar sites on the internet to reinforce the Introduction and supplement their exposure to the language of options.

I've seen some of the worst. This book ranks highly among the best.

James Bittman treats the subject of options like a college course, beginning with basics, testing, going on to creating graphs and charts, then to how to trade options and combine strategies to your complement your investing. I finally feel confident about when and how to use options.

A good book, the title says it.

The software that came with the book that allows one to price an option by the Option Pricing Model or a Spread up to four legs was worth the purchase price of the book. Mr. Bittman discusses options from the viewpoint of a stock investor a clear manner by cover topics of interest to a stock investor. Covered Calls, Married Puts. Stock Repair. Using LEAPS as a means for gift giving. He covers when to and when not to to use each of those strategies. The chapters end in a short test. I recommend not skipping the tests but repeating them until one gets each question right. I may have missed it, but I think paper trading is an important part of learning how to trade options.

Mixed feelings on this one

I have very mixed feelings about this book. I love this series. I love the characters. The wit. The charm. The sexy and smoldering Reyes Farrow. And you can find all of those things in this book. So on one hand, I enjoyed it. I laughed. And I quickly warmed to amnesiac Charley, who --despite her memory loss-- is essentially the same loveable person she has been since book 1. The problem is that this book felt like total filler. Other than a couple of revelations at the very end, it's essentially a prop to get us from the explosive ending of Eighth Grave to whatever is coming next. A fact which I found both disappointing and frustrating.

The climax of the last book was heartbreaking. That it caused Charley to check out of her regular life and start over with a blank slate somewhere is kind of understandable. But this entire book is spent without Charley knowing who she is. It's too much. I spent the whole time waiting for her to remember her identity, which kept me from really buying in to the story. It was a distraction and it felt like we were spinning our wheels.

Charley's friends and family are all with her in the small town where she landed, keeping up the ruse that they don't know her history. Again, I have mixed feelings. I am glad they were present, because I love the relationships she has with Cookie, Uncle Bob, Swopes, and Osh. (And of course, Reyes goes without saying.) The interactions she has with them as "Janey Doerr" are virtually the same as she has as Charley, which is good in the sense that it's fun and familiar. But it's bad because it messed with my suspension of disbelief. That they all picked up their lives and created fake ones across the country. That their relationships with Charley play out the exactly same way when she doesn't know them. It's just too... convenient. This is a smart, snappy series that is great at surprising me. Here, it felt less so.

There is a side mystery involving a kidnapped family that was fair. It gave Charley a reason to sleuth but it was not tied to the bigger story as her mysteries usually are. Like everything else in the book, it felt forced in a way this series rarely is.

I wish I felt differently. Because Reyes is still loyal and delicious and damn near perfect. And Cookie may be the best sidekick ever. And Charley is still wonderful Charley no matter what name she goes by. I just want the rest of the magic back.

Had Me Laughing, Had Me Worried, Had Me Engrossed To The Point There Would Be No Sleep

I have been waiting for this book for 8 months and it felt like 8 years, the things that happened in the last book just blew my mind and then the ending left me trying to wrap my head around that book so I was waiting for this book to add something approaching normal back to this series …… and it did …. Well sort of normal.

This book is almost like a new series for a good part of the book because Charlie does not remember who/what she is or why she can see dead people.

The humor in this book is what I am going to remember for a long time, I laughed as much or more than I have reading most romantic comedies. Doing all this while a deadly serious plot unfolds around our heroine is a nice touch and shows why we keep reading this series, Charlie has a wicked sense of humor and add a bit of reckless detective and it makes for an exceptionally entertaining reading experience.

It should be mentioned that no cliffhanger is a real plus but she leaves us a small teaser which I assume will set the plot of the next book The Curse of Tenth Grave

Bottom Line: This book is a gem, the old amnesia ploy actually works great, it makes the book seem like a prequel in some respects and what really makes it exceptional is the cast of characters that are like family. All of them are there to help although if I had any complaints it might be wanting to see more of all of them but then again the story had to be handled perfectly or it would come across like one of those hundreds of amnesiac soap opera plots that are a joke these days. This is a slowly building plot with great humor and we get to see Charlie fall in love all over again. 5 Stars and once again she leaves us with a small teaser that will have us snatching up the next one as soon as we can get our hands on it.

Charlotte “Charley” Davidson is far from home in Sleepy Hollow, NY. She has lost her memory and doesn’t have a clue about her life before four weeks ago when she woke up in an alley in Sleepy Hollow. Now she is calling herself Janey Doerr (Jane Doe is just too boring) and has developed a few friendships at the diner she is working at. Along with her new friends, she has her regulars (who is that Garret fellow and isn’t Reyes really a wonderful chunk of man?) and she has gotten to know her neighboring business owners. The only thing she knows for sure about her life is that she is different because she can see the dead and the world around her seems to be split into two distinct forms. And what is up with being a human lie detector? When she delivers lunch to one of her neighboring business friends, she realizes something is up. He acts nervous and strange people have taken up in this shop. She starts snooping and realizes he is being held hostage. She will stop at nothing to help him and his family. Sometimes not having a memory can be an asset. But, who will help her when things get too hot to handle?

I was really looking forward to this novel and dreading it at the same time. I’ve never been a really big fan of a main character developing amnesia and not knowing anything. But I should have known that Darynda Jones would pull it off. Charley was her normal self, bright, funny, and engaging. Usually by this time, I’m starting to get a little tired of a series. Not this one. I feel like we’ve started a new arc in the series, and things still feel fresh. In some ways, I feel that Charley has grown up a bit in this book, too. She was never that immature, but a still see a little growth. I am more than ready for the next book. This whole series has been a joy to read, and I am still looking forward to the next one. Do yourself a favor and read the entire series. You will not regret it. I have recommended the series to many people and all love it. Don’t miss this one!
