About the Author
Barbara Walker first visited Bali in 1988 intending to stay for only a few days. She never expected to be so completely taken by the Balinese people, the spirituality of their lives and the overwhelming beauty of their lush and verdant landscape. And now, after 17 years, her admiration for the Balinese people and enthusiasm for the island continues to grow. Barbara is an experienced architectural-interior designer and colour stylist and is also the author of the bestselling Bali Style, first published in 1995 and now into its seventh reprint. She is currently working on a series of books on Indochine architecture, interiors and food.

Jay Graham photographs for commercial and editorial clients in the US and internationally. Among his most recent books is Bouquets, written by Marsha Heckman. His photographs will again be seen in an upcoming series of books on Indochine style, architecture and food. Jay Graham lives in northern California with his wife and three children and loves to travel the world, whether for pleasure or on assignment. His connection to Bali is long-standing one, and one he hopes will continue always.

About the Author
Mr. Fay was a special agent of the U.S. Army Criminal Investigation Division (CID) and later the Director of the National Crime Prevention Institute at the University of Louisville. He has held security management positions in the petroleum industry while teaching at the university level. He holds the Master of Business Administration degree from the University of Hawaii, and is a well-known and respected author of many books, including Butterworth's Security Dictionary: Terms and Concepts, Drug Testing, Encyclopedia of Security Management: Techniques and Technology, and Model Security Policies, Plans, and Procedures, all by Butterworth-Heinemann.Was a special agent of the U.S. Army Criminal Investigation Division (CID) and later the Director of the National Crime Prevention Institute. Former manager of security for British Petroleum's operations in the Gulf of Mexico. He was previously an adjunct professor at the University of North Florida and the University of Houston.

Not worth the price

I was quite disappointed when this book arrived. I was expecting something significant and informative. While it is nice to have some of the information and research on this topic gathered in one place, the book is more like a leaflet or journal paper than an actual book. It's 60 pages in a large-type, not very dense form, with lots of clip-art style graphics to illustrate the main points. I can't believe that I paid $26.50 for this. That will teach me to buy a book sight-unseen because the title seems exciting and there is all of one positive review on amazon...

Great concise resource on gender diversity!

I highly recommend this book for individuals interested in gender diversity in computer science. In particular, people who want to learn more about gender diversity issues but don't want to or don't have time to sift through a large number of books and papers should read this book. The author succinctly describes reasons for gender diversity in computer science (e.g. gender gaps in risk-taking and confidence levels) and obstacles for women succeeding in computer science (e.g. stereotype threat), citing relevant research and providing further reading opportunities. Additionally, the book suggests a variety of best practices for changing classroom and advising interactions with students in order to improve retention of women in computer science.

Even if you are familiar with the literature on gender diversity in computer science, I recommend you read this book. Although I have extensive exposure to this topic, I found myself learning about new research results and enjoying the analysis and storyline presented by the author. Not only have I subsequently read some of the suggested texts, but I have also instituted some of the suggested classroom changes (e.g. pair programming, use of cards to randomize who gets called on) to my students' delight.

Specific attention is given to the daily operational deployments of the Heeresgruppe divisions and how they were reconstructed after the brutal combat in Pomerania. The differences between Himmler and Heinrici’s command styles are examined and questions are raised about what, if anything Himmler contributed to Germany’s final defense. Hitler’s operational goals are also revealed for the first time through his daily guidance issued to the East Front field commands during the last month of war. Surprisingly, Heeresgruppe Weichsel and Berlin’s defense were not among his top priorities.

The previously unpublished wartime diary of General der Infanterie Martin Gareis and the postwar interviews of Generaloberst Hasso-Eccard Freiherr von Manteuffel, and Generalmajor Burkhart Mueller-Hillebrand provide detail on the situation of the Armee through the end of the war and offer insights into key military and political personalities of the Third Reich.

A. Stephan Hamilton is the author of 'Bloody Streets: The Soviet Assault on Berlin, April 1945' and the previous volume in this series, 'The Oder Front 1945: Generaloberst Gotthard Heinrici, Heeresgruppe Weichsel and Germany's Final Defense in the East, 20 March -4 May 1945' (both published by Helion). He has spent the majority of his spare time during the last decade researching and writing about the final months of World War II in Europe. When not writing a book, he works full time and serves as a Major in the United States Army Reserves. He is a recent graduate of the U.S. Army Reserve's Command and General Staff College and holds a B.A. and M.A. in History. He resides in Northern Virginia with his wife and two children.
